Good News
July 2010

The Atkinson SCHome is extremely proud to announce our latest OFSTED report has been given an overall 'GOOD' rating. Please click on the link to download the report. The home is particularly proud of the changes and updates that have been made in safeguarding and our inspectors have been very impressed. In the last year everyone in our home has made a big commitment to focusing on a 'needs based approach' to working with young people.

This means young people now take part in weekly management meetings where they have a say of how our home is run. We have listened to the needs of young people and adapted to make changes that were led by them. We have
New Menu's with more food options daily. We have new activities and mobility sessions, with weekly Kayaking and Surfing! Our School is at the heart of our home and we have utilised our garden with healthy living and small business projects.

We have just raised money for a local charity from selling our excess produce on a Market Stall. Young People at the Atkinson SCHome can voluntarily take part in Restorative Justice to help resolve conflict and restore harm. They are empowered to have a say in how the balance of their community is restored.

Every young person has the opportunity to full-time education, whatever their needs. They have an individual care plan with their own specific targets - encouraging and helping them achieve goals with the support of a key worker who can develop individual programmes of work. We have an excellent psychologist, CPN, Nurse and Consultant Psychologist that contribute to the overall care and well-being of young people in our care.

Please contact the new manager, Pete Spearman, if you have any questions or would like to come and visit our home.

We are currently making further changes to our website. In the meantime, we will post regular news updates and will shortly be posting music and video projects created by the young people in our care.
