Resources and facilities
The Atkinson Unit is set on the outskirts of the Cathedral City of Exeter within easy reach of the coast, Dartmoor and Exmoor.
Children and young people who have attained mobility are able to take full advantage of the outstanding physical and cultural aspects of the area during planned, escorted outings.
For those unable to leave the campus there are a wide range of facilities on site, including:

The education wing includes art and domestic science rooms, which are available for use outside school hours, with classrooms and a computer study room furnished to the highest standards.
Bedrooms and living facilities are in two clusters of eight, so providing a less institutional atmosphere.
Each child has an individual room that is light and airy and which they are encouraged to personalise with pictures and posters of their choice. Every bedroom has en-suite and shower and toilet facilities.
Every attempt is made to take individual needs into consideration when grouping young people
