Staffing and support
Upon admission, each young person is allocated a personal team to oversee their welfare. This consists of a key-worker, a personal tutor and a case manager from the Unit's management team.
The Unit is fully staffed according to D.C.S.F guidance. A high proportion of staff have significant experience and/or qualifications in social work and other professional fields. Devon Social Services provides high quality in-service training for all staff, including specialist skills relevant to the Unit's highly specialised client group.
Staff have regular access to a Child psychologist and educational psychologists.
Placing authorities can request an assessment
from an educational psychologist as part of the
service provided by the Unit. Any further
psychiatric or psychological assessments
required have to be specifically arranged and
commissioned by the placing authority, as they
do not form part of the basic contract.
A chaplain is avaliable on a regular basis and is available to the young people and staff on request. Visits from ministers of major religions can be arranged locally when required. A representative of Voice is available to any young person who wishes to make a complaint outside the usual channels, or simply as someone to talk to from outside the Unit.
